Local\u00a0baseball legend Harley Parnell Hisner passed away on Friday March 20th at\u00a0age 88. The\u00a01976 NEIBA Hall of Fame inductee had\u00a0also been a long-time board member of\u00a0the organization\u00a0and was the\u00a02010 recipient of\u00a0the Colin Lister Award for “dedication to the game of baseball and its historic legacy.”<\/p>\n

Hisner\u00a0pitched one Major League game: Sept. 30, 1951, for the Boston Red Sox against the New York Yankees. That happened to be Joe DiMaggio’s last regular-season game before he retired. h\/t Blake Sebring<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Hisner hurled\u00a0six innings, giving\u00a0up seven singles, walking\u00a0four, and\u00a0struck out Mickey Mantle two times.<\/p>\n

On April 20, 2012, Hisner joined nearly 200 former Red Sox players and coaches in\u00a0Boston to commemorate Fenway Park’s 100th anniversary.\u00a0He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Anna, in 2013. They had three children and eight grandchildren.<\/p>\n
